Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui and Isla de Pascua is owned by chili and located 3,700 km off the west coast of Chile. Easter Island is the world's most isolated inhabited island. It is also one of the most mystifying places on Earth, possessing a history that remains as unclear as it is evocative. This tiny speck of land is blessed with an extraordinary collection of archaeological sites, including the iconic moai, scattered amid an eerie landscape.

Easter Island is famous for its tight-lipped statues that stand across the island, erected by the Rapa Nui people between the 10th and 16th centuries. The Moai Statues were carved from the island's volcanic rock at Rano Raraku. They can have a diameter of more than 3 meters and heights that can reach up to 24 meters. The name "Easter Island" was given by the Dutch explorer who discovered it on Easter Sunday 1722.
