Originating from Mao’er Shan, north of Guilin, the Li River winds its way south, for about 271 miles.

It passes through Guilin City, Yangshuo County, Pingle County and Zhaoping County, and finally meets the Xi River at Wuzhou. It boasts largest and possibly most beautiful scenic area in China.

The stretch from Guilin City to Yangshuo County is like a painter’s masterpiece. The landscape is decorated with startling hills, steep cliffs, fantastic caves and farming villages, and is lined with bamboo. It was written in a Chinese poem that: "The river is a green silk ribbon, and the hills are jade hairpins" – nice!

For many visitors, the Li River Cruise from Guilin is the highlight of a trip to this area. The cruise boats have open viewing decks so that everyone can get great views, and photographs, of the landscapes and river life. It is also possible to hike along sections of the Li River. This is an ideal activity to really get you close to the river people and their lifestyles.
