Diving Holidays In Maldives

In 2007 the Maldives became the most celebrated adventure holiday destination abroad when it scooped the most awards in the Dive & Travel Awards 2007 at the Marine Dive Fair.

Dr. Mahamood Shougee, the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation in the Maldives, led the delegation and accepted a string of awards on behalf of this island paradise.

The Marine Dive Fair, a huge event for dive enthusiasts everywhere, has 10 award categories and the Maldives won awards in eight of them.

Three awards were given for the island nation's excellence as a tourist destination. The Maldives won “Best Beach Destination”, “Best Dreaming Area” and “Best Diving Area”.

The remaining five awards won by three specific resorts. Olhuveli Beach & Spa Resort won “World-class Best Beach Resort; Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa won “Best Over Water Bungalow” and “Best Hotel Resort”. Clubmed Kani won the second “Best Over Water Bungalow” and the yacht Blue Shark 2 Safari won the “Second Best Live Aboard” award.

Competition was stiff and Maldives beat off challenges from 35 other countries as the readers of Marine Dive magazine cast their votes.

In 2006, Maldives was also the winner of the “World's Leading Dive Destination” and  “Indian Ocean's Leading Destination “at the World Travel Awards.
