Dolphin-watching cruises Dolphin-watching cruises depart early in the morning (around 07.00) and usually last a couple of hours. The west coast is the best for dolphins and most hotels can organise these excursions. Many of the operators encourage you to jump into the water and snorkel near the dolphins once you have found them, allowing you to watch these graceful creatures underwater. It can get a little frantic and crowded if several operators find the same pod of dolphins, and remember the smaller the boat you go on, the fewer people there will be. The dolphins have not been tamed in any way and there is no guarantee you will find them on a particular outing. It is reassuring to know they are free to go if the mood takes them. A dolphin-watching cruise typically costs around Rs1,400.
