Conditions for sailing are usually excellent. The large beach hotels have small sailing dinghies which guests can use within the waters of the lagoon.

Catamaran cruises are popular and full-day trips usually include snorkelling and lunch. They cost around Rs2,000. Sadly, some crews, particularly in the touristy north of the island, are unaware of the destruction that their actions cause to the marine environment. Many drop their anchors on the coral in the same area each day and it has become such a big business that as many as half a dozen catamarans will be anchored in the same place at the same time for snorkelling. A cruise from the west coast is likely to be more relaxing and less crowded than one from the north and JP Henry Charters are one of the best, most environmentally aware operators on the island. A more expensive but far more pleasurable experience is to charter a yacht.
