Diners are spoilt for choice in Grand Baie, with restaurants offering a variety of cuisine to suit all budgets. Most are open daily for lunch and dinner but prices and standards vary greatly.

For self-caterers there is a Store 2000 supermarket (( 07.30–19.30 Mon–Sat, 07.30–12.00 Sun & public holidays) on the coastal road at the Pereybère end of town. A little further into Grand Baie is the Epicerie Gourmande (% 269 1123; ( 09.30–19.00 Mon–Thu, 09.30–20.00 Fri/Sat, 09.00–12.00 Sun), which sells a range of fine food and treats. There is also a large and well-stocked Super U supermarket (( 09.00–20.30 Mon–Thu, 09.00–21.00 Fri/Sat, 09.00–13.00 Sun & public holidays), which is clearly signposted and just inland from the centre of Grand Baie.

X La Villa Garden Chemin 20 Pieds; % 262 7552; ( for dinner Mon–Sat, lunch Tue–Sat. Cuisine: French. Between Grand Baie & Pereybère. A sophisticated restaurant serving French gastronomic dishes, with a relaxing lounge bar/walled garden area & a small art gallery. Regular live music & easy parking. $$$$

X Le Capitaine Coastal Rd; % 263 6867; ( for lunch & dinner daily. Cuisine: seafood. Well-regarded restaurant in a romantic setting overlooking the bay. Superb seafood platter. Reservation recommended. $$$$

X Cocoloko Coastal Rd; % 263 1241; ( daily 09.00–late. Cuisine: European, light lunches. An inviting bar/restaurant next to the Ti Fleur Soleil, across the road from the bay. A good spot for pizza & other light lunches. Free Wi-Fi. $$$

X Happy Rajah Coastal Rd; % 263 2241; ( for lunch & dinner Mon–Sat. Cuisine: Indian. Popular with locals & tourists alike for its authentic Indian dishes. $$$

X La Terrasse Coastal Rd; % 263 6391; ( 10.00–14.00 & 17.30–22.00 Wed–Mon. Cuisine: Creole, French, Chinese, seafood. A relaxed restaurant around 1km north of the centre of Grand Baie. The 1st-floor dining area is above a fairly busy road but does have sea views. Consistently good, unpretentious dishes. $$$

X Le Bistrot de Bacchus Ventura Complex, Coastal Rd; % 263 3203; ( for lunch & dinner daily. Cuisine: French & wine shop. Has a true French bistro atmosphere. Good, reasonably priced food & a huge selection of wines from around the world. $$$

X Mamma Mia Coastal Rd; % 422 4269; ( for dinner Wed–Mon, lunch Sat–Sun. Cuisine: Italian. Across the road from the bay but with good sea views. A popular pasta & pizza joint, which also does take-away. $$$

X Rendez Vous Café Coastal Rd; % 263 4589; ( 07.30–late daily. Cuisine: Creole, French. A varied menu from pizza to carri. There is a lounge, bar & Wi-Fi. $$$

X Sakura Coastal Rd; % 263 8092; ( for lunch & dinner, closed Sun lunch. Cuisine: Japanese. Take-away available. Good food, particularly the tepanyaki. Reservation recommended for weekends. $$$

X Tutto Bene La Cuvette, Grand Baie; % 263 3000; ( 10.00–15.30 & 18.00–late daily. Cuisine: Italian, Creole. A large, modern restaurant serving well-presented dishes. Near The Royal Palm Hotel. Reservation recommended. $$$

X Don Camillo Coastal Rd; % 263 8540; ( for lunch & dinner daily. Cuisine: Italian. Take-away available. This Grand Baie classic continues to impress with tasty pasta & pizza dishes. $$

X Luigi’s Coastal Rd; % 269 1125; ( for dinner Tue–Sun, lunch Sat. Cuisine: Italian. Just north of town, next to Epicerie Gourmande. Owned & run by an Italian family. Offers plenty of choice, from homemade pizza & pasta to sumptuous seafood dishes with a Mediterranean twist. Good food at reasonable prices. Wi-Fi available. $$
