Argentina and the Antarctic Peninsula - 15 Night Itinerary

Days 1 – 3: Buenos Aires
Fly overnight from the UK to Buenos Aires where you will spend 2 nights in the home of tango, at a centrally located hotel. Enjoy a fascinating half day city tour on your first morning and learn about the fascinating history of Argentina. With the rest of your time in the city you could discover one of the cities many art galleries or museums. 

Day 4: Ushuaia
Today you will fly to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world and departure point for your Antarctic cruise. After checking into your hotel you can enjoy the evening at leisure. 

Day 5 - 7: Depart Ushuaia, Drake Passage
On day 5 you will have the morning free to do any last minute shopping or perhaps take an optional excursion to the Tierra Del Fuego National Park. In the late afternoon you will board the ship and depart Ushuaia. After heading out of the famous Beagle Channel the ship will spend the next 2 days making its way over the infamous Drakes Passage towards the Antarctic Peninsula.

Day 8 - 11: Antarctic Peninsula
This is the day you get a chance to step foot on the Great White Continent! Over the next 4 days you will be navigating southwards making stops in the South Shetland Islands then through the Bransfield Strait and to the Antarctic Peninsula. Most operators attempt 2 excursions per day, while they navigate through the area. But your itinerary and daily schedule will be based on the local weather and ice conditions that you encounter. 

The Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands abound with wildlife activity. Penguins gather with their fast-growing chicks, whales are seen in great numbers, seals haul out onto ice floes and beaches, and numerous albatross and other seabirds trail in our wake. There is plenty of time to enjoy the sheer beauty and the breathtaking scenery of ice-choked waterways, blue and white icebergs, impressive glaciers and rugged snow-capped mountains. 

The Peninsula also has a remarkable history and, during the voyage, we will learn about some of the most important and dramatic expeditions to this remote corner of the world. 

Day 12 - 13: Drake Passage
You will leave Antarctica and head north across the Drake Passage. In between bird and whale watching you can enjoy some final lectures by the on board expedition staff. It’s a great chance to relax and review the adventures of the past week before returning to Ushuaia.

Day 14: Ushuaia – Buenos Aires
Arrive back in Ushuaia and disembark the ship. Head to the airport for your flight back to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival in Buenos Aires you will transfer to your hotel for a final night in the capital of Argentina. A chance to enjoy a nice meal or perhaps see a tango show.

Day 15 – 16: Fly To UK
You will head to Buenos Aires Airport for your overnight flight back to the UK.

Day 1: Ushuaia, Argentina

Start your tour in Argentina's southernmost town, which is famously nicknamed, "End of the World". This lively port town sits on the border of the Tierra del Fuego National Park and has an impressive and dramatic backdrop. From here, you will board your cruise and head out on your expedition.

Day 2-4: At Sea

For the first three days of your cruise, sail across dark waters relaxing in the comfort of your luxury cabin. The journey to South Georgia is worth the wait as you will soon be greeted by a spectacular world of wildlife and scenery.

Day 5-7: South Georgia

This magnificent island is home to an array of wildlife, including the regal king penguins, who exist in colonies over South Georgia. There are hundreds of species of birds here, alongside stunning glaciers and picturesque mountains. Guests may also be presented with the opportunity to visit the resting place of famous British explorer, Ernest Shackleton.

Days 8-9: At Sea

Embark your cruise once again before setting sail for the breathtaking Antarctic Peninsula. Sit in the ships observation lounge and prepare for the thrilling first appearances of this continent's icebergs.

Day 10: Elephant Island

As you enter a sea of glaciers, prepare for sightings of Elephant Island, where Ernest Shackleton's ship crashed in the Weddell Sea, resulting in his crew taking shelter in this unforgiving environment for four months.

Day 11: Antarctic Sound

As you venture into the Antarctic Sound, prepare for sightings of Adelie and Gentoo penguins, alongside incredible glaciers and dramatic scenes. If the weather is clear, your ship may sail towards Brown Bluff and Hope Bay before resuming en route. 

Day 12: Antarctic Peninsula

Here you will discover a fascinating range of marine life, swimming and exploring between the peninsula's many glittering icebergs. Once on land, there will be more opportunities to see penguins, as well as the region's top sights.

Day 13: South Shetland Islands

Today, you will visit Deception Island, a giant, sunken volcano with a rich history relating to the topic of scientific research. Gain a close up view of this impressive formation on a thrilling hike.

Day 14-15: At Sea

Relax back onboard and reflect upon your trip's highlights whilst cruising the Drake Passage back to South America. On the final evening, the tour's photographer will reveal the footage taken during your expedition. 

Day 16: Disembark

Enjoy a final breakfast onboard before departing, either towards your next destination or to start your journey home.
