Juan Fernandez Islands

Discovered in 1563 by Juan Fernandez, this cluster of islands is located around 400 miles west of Chile in the Pacific Ocean.

Composed of three main volcanic islands, Robinson Crusoe, Alejandro Selkirk and Santa Clara, the majority of the population reside on Robinson Crusoe Island.

The sparsely inhabited group of islands strongly rely on the sporadic flourishes of tourism as well as their vast amount of fishing in the Pacific Ocean.

You can access the islands with a flight from Chile’s capital city airport, Santiago taking approximately 3 hours.

Once arrived at the islands, some of the most fantastic walking routes can be explored allowing you to discover the beauty of the remote islands.

Robinson Crusoe Island offers wonderful swimming experiences in the crystal clear surrounding waters opening your eyes to the magical underwater world. On land you can hike around some untouched parts of the island, representative of the history of this isolated island.

If Robinson Crusoe doesn’t quite meet you secluded island experience, the difficult to reach Alejandro Selkirk Island is bound to match you expectations. Rarely visited by tourists and barely populated, you will have to camp on this undeveloped island, really getting a feel for the natural environment.

Smallest of the Juan Fernandez Islands is the uninhabited island Santa Clara. Access to this island is rather difficult and rarely attempted, although visitors that do make the challenging journey are high rewarded with the stunning scenery provided by the island. Sandy white beaches outline the island with a coral reef surrounding the south side of the island.
