All Maharajas' Express journeys begin in Delhi and end in Mumbai. Below is a sample itinerary with details of all the things you can experience on a magical Maharajas' Express package:
Day 1 + 2
Fly with British Airways from London Heathrow to Delhi and spend 1 night at the luxurious Oberoi Hotel.
Day 3
Spend some time in New Delhi to explore the area before boarding the Maharajas' Express at Safdarjung station. The train will then begin an overnight journey to Agra.
Day 4
Take the opportunity to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra, the world renowned building that has iconic status in India. You can visit Agra Fort, best described as a walled city before having some free time to go shopping. Dinner will then be served on the Maharajas' Express as it travels to Ranthambore National Park.
Day 5
Partake in a safari at Ranthambore National Park with a guide to educate you on the array of wildlife that live in the park, such as the majestic Bengal tiger. Once you finish breakfast at the Taj Swai Madhopur Lodge, you will begin your journey to Jaipur. You can then spend the afternoon walking around this vibrant city, taking advantage of the enchanting shopping opportunities. Guests can also stop at Amber Fort, an incredible piece of architecture made from sandstone. In the evening, you will be able to watch a polo match with elephants, even participating in this activity!
Day 6
The Maharajas' Express train will make its way from Jaipur to Bikaner through the picturesque landscape. Look through the panoramic windows to view village settlements and camels as you travel to Bikaner. When you arrive at Bikaner, you will have a chance to explore the city where there are many forts, palaces and temples to visit. In the afternoon, you will have the chance to go to Junagarh Fort to look at the architectural beauty of the structure as well the palace situated inside the fort. Afterwards, venture on a camel ride to reach the dunes and enjoy a delightful evening of dance, music and a barbecue as the sun sets.
Day 7
The Maharajas' Express train will continue to Jodhpur, known as the Blue City because of the painted houses that surround the incredible Mehrangarh Fort. Spend the day discovering the town and stop at the Clock Tower before browsing through the stalls in the Old Market. For the evening activities, you will be able to dine in the Royal Courtyard at Mehrangarh Fort.
Day 8
Breakfast will be served on the Maharajas' Express train as it travels to Udaipur. Here, you will be able to view many wonderful and enchanting palaces. We recommend visiting the City Palace in Udaipur before taking a walk through the Old Market.
Day 9
The Maharajas' Express train will stop at Vadodara where you can see the ruins at Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeology Park, a World Heritage Site. Also in Vadodara, you can embrace the artistic culture of the city by visiting the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum to look at a collection of artwork. At Laxmi Vilas Palace, you will be treated with “High Tea” before you get on board the train to travel to your final destination in India.
Day 10
When you arrive in Mumbai, you can explore the busy city before spending a night in the Taj Mahal Palace.
Day 11
From Mumbai, you will fly back to London Heathrow with British Airways.
