Rating 10/10 - Stephen J

“We were both so impressed with Madagascar. The people there are so friendly and so content with there lives given the fact that the country is one of the poorest worldwide. The country (from what we saw of it) is so diverse and we only wish we could have spent another 12 days visiting the north and south coasts along with the national parks. ”

Rating 10/10 - Anita U

“Stunning and the North and South are so different in terrain, weather and wildlife”

“At the time we were going the Foreign Office was advising against visiting Madagascar. Glad we did not heed this advice. Madagascar is a wonderful place to visit and the people are delightful, friendly and helpful. We had arranged a two centre holiday ; part in the rain forest and second on a secluded beach. In both cases they lived up to expectations; the rain forest for its wildlife, particularly lemurs (saw 10 species) and the beach also for its wildlife from surrounding forest and in the sea. Our stay was made the more interesting becuase of the very knowledgeable guides assigned to support our visit. The question of 'slash and burn' clearance of the forests is of great concern and was recognized fully by all the locals. However, the areas we visited had not yet suffered from this blight. As expected there is a considerable contrast between the Capital and country living standards. Although both will present quite a change to those from the affluent West. All the people we met, both in the towns and in the country districts seemed, despite living conditions, relaxed, friendly and smiling - perhaps this is 'civilization' without material concerns. The mantra of 'Mora Mora' is one we could all adopt with benefit.”

“The contrast between Eden Lodge area and Vakona with regard habitat provided us with greater understanding of Madagascar. To be able to experience the life of a typical fishing village was something we will not forget and added another dimension to our appreciation.”
