For a friendly, relaxed yet luxurious holiday resort with a wide choice of activities, you need look no further than Le Canonnier. Located on the northern tip of Mauritius and blessed with a wonderful climate, Le Canonnier has recently been refurbished throughout - from the accommodation to the landscaped gardens, The resort occupies a unique spot on Cannon Point peninsula, complete with lighthouse, fortress ruins complete with ancient cannons and breathtaking views over the northern islets.
Designed to integrate the remains of the past with a contemporary design and superb facilities, Le Canonnier hugs the peninsula's coastline, yet remains a short drive from fashionable, bustling Grande Baie, popular for shopping and lively night life.
The rooms unfold in two wings in a stylish, trendy design. The furniture is simple; minimalist in a tasteful combination of colours, material and texture: contrasts of red and beige, wooden frames and blinds that let in natural light. Of 66 standard rooms - each with an en-suite shower - 63 are sea facing. There are 40 superior rooms - slightly larger with an en-suite bath and shower - and several family apartments with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a balcony or terrace mezzanine protected by shutters.
There are two main restaurants - Le Frangipanier and Le Planteur, plus Le Navigator - a more intimate venue - all with stunning views over the Indian Ocean. The "all inclusive" option includes breakfast, lunch and dinner in all open restaurants, house wines during lunch and dinner, an unlimited selected drinks from the bar between 10 am and 11 pm, sandwiches at the bar between 10 am and 4 pm and soft drinks in the mini bar. The "all inclusive" option can also be used at the sister resort of Le Mauricia.
There is an excellent range of complimentary land and water sports - waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing and snorkelling. Big game fishing, catamaran cruises, scuba diving and speedboats are also available at an extra cost. Le Canonnier offers two large pools, plus access to Trou aux Biches' 9-hole golf course. A wellness and massage centre sits within the branches of an ancient Banyan tree.
