Morocco is great for catching fantastic weather without having a long flight as it is due south of the European mainland. This means if you can only spare a long weekend but would like some brilliant sunshine then Morocco is the perfect place.
Most people visit Agadir, Rabat or Marrakech. Marrakech is particularly beautiful as it lies in the foothills of the spectacular Atlas mountains.
It is a city with a rich atmosphere steeped in history. From Roman ruins and Berber Kasbahs to Islamic monuments, its fascinating past is etched into its architecture. It also has very high standards of accommodation with a number of excellent four and five star hotels. It is the perfect city to hide away and relax as Winston Churchill did.
If you would like an intense experience of local culture then visiting a market is a must.
The hustle and bustle is everywhere and the number of people who are interested in your custom is incredible. When you engage with the stall holders you can pick up some tremendous value, high quality items. Their leather is some of the softest in the world for example and their jewellery and rugs some of the most intricate.
You can also pick up some wonderful local spices to add to your cooking at home.
Whether you want to make a simple cup of delicious mint tea or a more complicated moroccan lamb casserole the ingredients and techniques are here for you. And if you do not fancy cooking then many stallholders actually have a charcoal grill alongside so that they can cook for you then and there. Fresh produce, cooked in the traditional way, delicious!
