The islands of the Florida Keys are so extensive that Key West, the most southern island is actually closer to Cuba than to mainland USA.
The keys are threaded together by a whopping 42 bridges... and the drive along the "Overseas Highway" is spectacularly scenic.

It is excilerating to drive on a road which is surrounded on all sides by water. It is one of those holiday destinations where travelling to it can be as enjoyable as arriving.
Each island has its own personality - historic places, regional cuisine, unusual flora and fauna, and distinct fishing and diving locations.
If you enjoy water then the Florida Keys are perfect for you. Key Largo is often called the "Diving Capital of the World" while Islamorada is known as the "Sport Fishing Capital".

As well as diving and fishing you can explore tall, lush evergreen trees and glades. You can also see the "Sunset Fest" in Key West where locals and visitors gather to view a glorious Florida Keys sunset whilst being entertained by musicians and carnival acts.
If you are hooked on the water though then you can interact with dolphins, sea lions, turtles in lagoons and tropical gardens around the Keys.

As Florida Keys is so close to the Caribbean Islands, the diving and snorkelling is just as good as in the Caribbean. The high number of dolphins, turtles and wrecks attract divers from across the globe.
If you like sport fishing then the deep blue waters of the gulfstream are filled with marlin, sailfish, tuna, wahoo and other ferocious fighters.
