San Francisco is great city to visit whether you have a few days or a couple of weeks. It combines great physical chacteristics such as the undulating roads and wooden slat buildings with a vibrant and cosmopolitan culture.
Shop in Union Square, lunch in chinatown and then follow the sightseers down to the charm of Fisherman's Wharf.

There are street acts, amazing fish restaurants and the chance to meet some of San Francisco's famous sea lions. They have made the old piers their home and their antics will keep you entertained while you wait for the ferry to Alcatraz island. After a certain amount of time you do welcome the arrival of the ferry as the noise and smell of sea lion lunch can get a bit overpowering!
Soak up the gorgeous views as you drive over the Golden Gate Bridge, which is unforgettable.

Use the bridge as the start of your adventure as you visit the stunning Redwood forest in Muir Woods. Adventure further into Marin County where you can go up Mount Tam and see the many woodland trails where mountain biking was invented.
There are no shortage of activities if you have a family with you... you can take your pick from kayaking in Reyes Point National Park to sailing and windsurfing.

Kite boarding is the latest craze and assuming you survive you can relax with the famous West Coast drive. Head off down the Big Sur, over a hundred miles of stunning craggy Pacific coastline to Hearst Castle. From there you can journey inland into the desert and the Grand Canyon. On the way don't miss Yosemite National Park with its towering granite dome scenery.
"Enjoyed my stay as did my daughter. The only thing that takes a bit of getting used to is the US pricing habit of adding tax onto the product or service.Would also appreciate it if US hotels had tea/coffee making facilities in hotel rooms. " rating 8/10, 20th Oct 2011, Elizabeth F
"cool most of the time- cooler than usual for the time of year ( unlucky, I guess!)" rating 9/10, 24th Oct 2011, Ifor R
