For the active traveller and sun-worshipper alike, Thailand offers a treasure trove of tourist attractions from north to south.
Despite its pollution and overcrowding, the capital Bangkok is undoubtedly one of Asia's most exciting and exotic tourist cities, from the 24-hour lifestyle of the vibrant Khao San Road and the dazzling array of bars and clubs, to the many Buddhist temples and the Royal Grand Palace.

Thailand’s second-largest city, Chaing Mai is an excellent starting point for excursions into the northern territories. Although its name means “new city”, Chiang Mai is much older than Bangkok, dating back to 1296. It is small enough to get around by bicycle and has an extensive night market, with dozens of street vendors selling traditional Thai wares. With many ancient temples, including one at Doi Suthep which offers breathtaking views over the area, the city also provides the starting point for elephant treks into the surrounding countryside.

It is easy to avoid the brash beach life of Pattaya on the east mainland coast. Along the eastern shores of the Kra Peninsula lie the beaches of Cha'am and Hua Hin - once a favoured get-away for the royals - and Thailand's oldest beach resort. Further south, the island resorts of Phuket to the west and Ko Samui to the east of the peninsula offer the tranquillity and beautiful scenery of a tropical paradise.
