Thailand Holiday Review - no.1
Dear Ruth
We have been back for a couple of weeks now but I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how much we enjoyed our trip to Thailand. What an amazing place...
Bangkok
The people are divine, the women are gorgeous and so gentle and serene. In Bangkok, the mixture of poverty and wealth reminded me so much of living in South Africa. You see massive hotels and big, beautiful business parks next to little shacks and derelict restaurants. It feels real and haphazard and has an edge that the neater, well planned and well managed towns and cities in Europe can never capture. People are hungry for the tourist trade and bend over backwards to make you feel welcome. We found ourselves walking around with smiles plastered to our faces and a serene air, if not actually felt, then at least attempted, in the presence of such a calm and gentle nature that is at the core of the Thai people.
Phuket
Phuket was awesome. We arrived late at night and opened our curtains the next morning to paradise. There were palm trees and a white beach and a little Thai man sweeping up beach debris so that we, the visitors, would not be inconvenienced by having to look at unsightly driftwood or clap eyes on any litter that may have washed up on the beach. This attention to detail was present throughout our stay. Each little public loo was immaculate and essential oils poured out of oil burners and incense sticks spiced the air in restaurants and markets. Food is presented to you like a work of art. Vegetables are carved and fruit resembles exotic flowers on your plate. Everything is tropical and fresh and dripping with the juices that only a hothouse climate could produce. Everywhere you go, elegant men and women, incline their heads shyly and smile and greet you in a voice barely above a whisper.
In the hotel, massages are so cheap you feel you should have one everyday just because you can. These tiny little women do amazing things with their little hands and never a hair out of place while they do it! From the orchids on your pillow at night, to the cocktails at sunset presented with a flourish of fruit and ice....you cannot fault them.
The friendliness and politeness of all the staff at all the hotels we visited was truly amazing. They interacted with your children in such a way that we left feeling that we had given birth to children of such great charm and beauty that you feel quite smug about this incredible achievement. Then you realise they just love kids and every child is held in their highest esteem.
Then there was the ride on the elephant. Words cannot describe how amazing that was. When I die I am coming back as an elephant! One of the highlights of my LIFE so far!
We would go back in a heartbeat. Definitely!
And so Ruth after just a week we are hooked. Thank you so much for organising everything so efficiently. We felt pampered and well taken care of during each part of our holiday. The hotels were magnificent, the private transfers prompt and reliable. The tours we took while in Thailand were well run and worth every penny. Everywhere we went the standards of cleanliness were excellent and the standerd of customer service, outstanding. The food was out of this world, both inside and outside the hotels.....although we did tend to stick to the restaurants the hotel recommended.
We only have one question....why didn't we go for longer?
We are so glad we have booked our next holiday through Holidays Please and we look forward to being impressed all over again. Once again, a big thank you Ruth, to you and all those involved. It was a truly unforgettable trip. Speak to you soon.

Hi Ruth,
...the hotels you recommended to us were superb, we have never stayed in such luxury before. The people of Thailand are so friendly and courteous and nothing was too much trouble. At times we felt like royalty.
We were also spoilt by the staff on the flight out, as I had told them via e-mail that it was our silver wedding anniversary and they went out of their way to make the journey special.
Once again Ruth thankyou for your recommendations, you certainly arranged something very special for us.

Did you get my text? We had a truly amazing time, the tour in Northern Thailand being the highlight by far. Just so beautiful from staying in rainforest to getting blessed by a monk in a temple on top of a mountain, to riding an elephant through jungle and through Maekong river.
Gareth actually sat on elephants shoulders and said he nearly fell off, had to grip on with legs really tight. The three hour tip down river on boat like a canoe was fab, saw kids on water buffalo and they all kept waving every time we passed. We hardly saw any westerners which was great. Bangkok just big noisy city but good laugh and Phuket resort (Patong) was bit like Blackpool but the shopping was brill. Hotel was very luxurious and lovely views. Everything went like clockwork and the tour guide in Northern Thailand was truly a star! Was worth every penny Keri!!!

Dear Ruth,
Apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Emma and I had a fantastic time in Thailand. We were particularly impressed with the reps in Bangkok and Phuket who were very prompt and helpful.
The Landmark Hotel was excellent as was the resort in Katathani, The only slightly disappointing thing was that the bathroom in the Junior suite needed upgrading. We went to have a look at the superior rooms in the new part of the resort and the rooms and bathroom were superior to those in the suite. We would definitely consider going back to Kata Thani but would probably opt to stay in a superior room with a swimming pool view (simply because the rooms were so stylish and modern).
Many thanks to Holidays Please for an excellent holiday. We will definitely consider using you again. We have also recommended you to several friends and family. The box of chocolates waiting for us when we got back was a nice touch also.
