St Lucia holiday resorts

St Lucia holiday resorts

The island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean is a perennially popular spot for couples; its sandy white beaches, luxury resorts and French-Creole warmth make it especially hospitable.

Take the southwest coast – a wild green land wherein lies mysterious jungle, steamy volcanoes, secret waterfalls, thick palm forests and most dramatic of all, the two spectacular half mile high peaks the Pitons that shoot straight up from the sea.

The author Patrick Leigh Fermor compared these “lonely spikes” to the Matterhorn, while others have called them the eighth wonder of the world – yet few travellers know they exist.

With the Pitons as its backdrop, the Anse Chastenet Resort is a taste of the “traditional” Carbbean – before trade winds were replaced by blasts of air conditioning, when morning exercise was a walk on the beach, not aerobics and when you watched the sunset instead of cable TV. The 600-acre site is a lush garden of tropical foliage bordering one of the island’s best beaches, where soft silver sands dip into the clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean. A second beach, Anse Mamin, belonging to the estate is just around the corner and can be reached by the Resort’s water taxi.

No two rooms at Anse Chastanet are exactly alike. Twelve beach level units are tucked away behind the coconut palms, just steps from the water’s edge, while perched on the hill are the resort’s original rooms; cheery white-washed cottages with wrap-around wooden balconies.

Then there are the deluxe suites – simply immense rooms yet enhanced by the fact that as little as possible is between guests and their natural surroundings, with entire walls open to the stunning scenery: a flamboyant tree drops its red-blossomed branches gently over the balcony in one room, the veranda of another was actually built around a red gommier tree.  And then there are its famous showers-with-a-view…

Connoisseur magazine writes that “there are many reasons to stay at Anse Chastenet - the most compelling is that it gives you the opportunity to be part of this beauty.”

Meanwhile, on the island’s northwest coast the luxurious Royal offers an elegant blend of privacy and sophistication. Located in its own grounds on a mile-long stretch of St Lucia's Reduit beach, this all-suite resort offers award-winning restaurants, comfort and privacy, plus a wide range of treatments, therapies and massage to rejuvenate or simply pamper.

Activities include windsurfing, water skiing, sunfish sailing, tennis, scuba diving, parasailing, golf and riding, while the Royal itself has an impressive fitness facility with personal trainers on hand to advise and motivate.

Eateries include Chic! - a French-inspired fine dining room - and the brasserie-style L'Epicure with its menu of creole specialities and global classics.
For beauty, adventure and total relaxation, the resorts of St Lucia are the perfect choice.
