Pattaya is renowned for its nightlife which, rather unfairly given the array of entertainment in the city, has become the focus of media attention since the mid 60s. However, since the “social order” crackdown by the Thai authorities in 2004, Pattaya has done much to confine its seamier side to specific parts of the city.
There are hundreds of beer bars, go go bars and night clubs cum discotheques. The most famous include Tonys, Marine Disco, X-Zyte, Lucifer, Hammer, Mixx. New clubs and bars are opening all the time. The world infamous Walking Street is the natural hub of this nocturnal activity. Undeniably, many bars, discos and nightclubs, as well as several large massage parlours, are venues for sex workers.
Also since 2004, there are fewer sex shows (such as the ping pong shows) and much depends on the prevailing enforcement climate among the authorities as to what takes place. Go-go dancers may be seen fully nude, topless or in bikinis on different days or weeks. However, with the political crisis, there is little incentive to be strict about the former laws.

Other nighttime entertainments include Muay Thai (Thai boxing) matches aimed at tourists, which can be enjoyed at several open-air beer bar complexes. In addition, plenty of massage parlours also exist providing traditional – and truly invigorating - non-sexual Thai massages.
