There is far more to Pattaya than its reputation for seedy nightlife. There is excellent golfing to be had around Pattaya - there are 21 golf courses within one hour of the city - as well as go-cart racing, theme parks and zoos, such as Mini Siam and Elephant Village (elephants are the national symbol of Thailand) and the private Sri Racha Tiger zoo, featuring several hundred tigers and thousands of alligators!
The Vimantaitalay tourist submarine takes customers underwater to see corals and marine life just a few kilometres offshore. There are boat trips available, from an hour to all day, mostly leaving from Bali Hai Pier.
About 15 km east is Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Gardens - the 500-acre site has well maintained botanical gardens and an orchid nursery. Moreover the facility has lively cultural shows in a Thai village setting plus, if a little oddly for a horticultural attraction, trained chimpanzees and elephants.
Other attractions in Pattaya include The Million Years Stone Park and Pattaya Crocodile Farm - beautifully landscaped grounds which include rock gardens, plant fossils over a million years old, 200 –year-old Thai style bonsai trees and a collection of rare albino bears, elephants and horses and the eponymous crocodiles. There are animal performances and crocodile round-ups every day.
Other family attractions include Pattaya Park Beach Resort Water Park and Funny Land Amusement Park, Siriporn Orchid Farm, Underwater World Pattaya (a world class aquarium), Alankarn cultural show, Bottle Art Museum and Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum. Day trips can include nearby Rayong for its beautiful beaches, as well as Koh Samet island.
