Kakadu National Park, Australia

Covering over 20,000 square kilometres, this splendid and unique national park has many spectacular spots to visit, but these ones are simply not to be missed:

Ubirr

Ubirr is one of Kakadu’s most popular stops. The walk crosses some breathtaking Aboriginal art sites and drives up to a charming outlook over the Nadab floodplain.

Ubirr has many rock shelters which were used by aboriginal people. The rock art found here is considered one of the best in the world. A good time to visit Ubirr is at sunset. Gaze out over the floodplains, groves and dark strips of rainforest, and let the spirit and tranquillity of Kakadu surround you.

During monsoon season, dramatic storms roll in, and lightning shows hit the horizon. You can still visit Ubirr by boat.

Gunlom

Slide into the cool fresh water of a large crystal clear plunge pool for a pleasurable dive encompassed by the unspoiled exotic landscape. This spectacular location can be found at the base of the Gunlom falls.

When you’ve cooled down, recline on the warm rocks and gaze out over southern Kakadu where the verdant landscape reaches the infinite blue sky.

Nourlangie

Nourlangie is home to some of the world’s earliest and most remarkable rock art, and panoramic views of the Arnhem Land mountain.

It is one of the reasons why Kakadu is World Heritage-listed for exceptional cultural values. This famous site records life in the region from 20,000 years ago to the first encounter with European explorers.

This 1.5 km walk invites you to take a visual tour through time to an open-air cultural museum where paintings, shelters and artefacts display traditional ways of life from diverse periods.

Other unmissable locations you should visit while in Kakadu National park are: Maguk, Yellow Water, Gubarra, Motor Car Falls and Boulder Creek.
