Named Death Valley due to its gigantic dunes with narrow sand edges, these huge sand hills are located just a few kilometres from San Pedro de Atacama.

Although not as popular and regularly visited by tourists as Moon Valley, Death Valley is just as spectacular with vast arrangements of colour located across the towering peaks.

In the Salt Mountain Range, part of the Los Flamencos National Park, Death Valley is covered in striking glowing red sand.

Years of wind and erosion has sculpted this beautiful landscape full of rock formations and sharp sand dunes.

Being easily accessible from San Pedro de Atacama by car, bike or even part of a tour that visits both Moon Valley and Death Valley, the unusual and curious landscapes are a wonderful part of the Atacama Desert.
