Puerto Varas Holidays

This popular tourist destination, known as “the city of roses” located in the southern Chilean province is Puerto Varas. On the shoreline of Lake Llanquihue, Puerto Varas is located around 12 miles from Puerto Montt.

Many visitors choose Puerto Varas for the charming attributes of the town, which meets the widespread lake. Magnificent views stem from the distinct outlines of volcano Osorna and Calbuco in the distance.

Located on the shore of the river means there is an unlimited access to water sports such as kayaking, canoeing and fishing.

Enjoy a relaxed walk around the city to observe its traditional architecture which you can see is strongly inspired by Germany.  Visit a sweet lake side beach and spend the day relaxing in the scenic setting.

The distinctive architecture isn’t the only German influence that runs through Puerto Varas due to the German immigrants in the 1900’s. The vast range of cuisine is known for its traditional German dishes as well as shops serving German themed craft beers, jams and chocolates.

This lovely town is a perfect destination to be explored by holiday makers, with 360 degree stunning views and a destination full of natural beauty willing to be explored.

Day Hikes from Puerto Varas:

Vicente Perez Rosales National Park

This vigorous hike covers a large and scenic section of the Vicente Perez Rosales park, the first park opened in Chile in 1926. The hike takes 6 hour covering 12kms in total mostly on a gravel trail. The trail begins with some steady uphill sections but you will be treated with stunning views over the volcanoes and the lakes that surrounded this section of the park. The Andes mountain range emerges on the horizon as you reach the emerald waters of the Todos Los Santos Lake where you end the hike. On your return journey back to Puerto Varas you will visit the Petrohue Falls, where waterfalls cascade through channels formed by a combination of lava flows and water erosion. (This hike can also end with a night spent in the historic Hotel Petrohue on the shores of the Todos Los Santos Lake instead of returning to Puerto Varas.)

Alerce Andino National Park

Alerce Andino National Park is situated between mountains, volcanoes and the Pacific Ocean. This full day trip will take you along the coast on the beginning of the Carretera Austral. During this mild 5 hour hike you'll cover 16 kilometres. For those looking for a bit more of a challenge an additional loop can be added of 4kms to visit the Sargazo Lagoon. The track is made of dirt terrain with some uphill parts. Whilst inside the park, you'll be surrounded by the exuberant temperate rainforest, including the old Alerce trees. The transformation during millions of years of these mountains created a landscape full of rivers, waterfalls and lagoons. During the drive to the park,  stop at local villages along the road and admire the ocean view of the first fjord of Patagonia.
