Huacachina is a small desert oasis buried in the southern region of Peru. Roughly an hour away from the Pacific coast, this destination offers a shaded desert environment with the ability to visit the ocean at whim.

This town offers lots of different resorts and restaurants, but the main attraction is the massive sand dunes. There is also a lagoon, which can be found in the middle of all the sand. Huacachina is highly regarded in Peru – so much so, that a vintage version of the town is featured on the 50 soles bill.

Huacachina is a popular place to visit because of its novel value. The sand dunes provide a selection of different activities. It’s a great place to sandboard and it’s also a fun spot for riding a dune buggy. Whilst driving a four-wheel dune buggy, you can mount the steep dunes and pick up some speed. Fans of adventure sports will be in their element.

If the buggy ride doesn’t particularly appeal, then walking the dunes is just as fun and more of a challenge. Have a laugh racing to the top and get a workout in at the same time. Pick a smaller dune for a slightly easier climb! The view at the top is the perfect reward for all your effort. You’ll be overlooking the lagoon and the town, as well as the never-ending sand dunes in the distance.
