Ausangate Trek

The Ausangate trek is a splendid route through the remotest areas of Peru. You’ll see a mixture of sights, from snow-capped peaks and glaciers to herds of llamas and turquoise lakes. Above all, Ausangate is known for its signature rainbow mountains.

On the Ausangate trek, you have the option of riding a horse for the journey; however, this is only recommended for confident riders. There will be extra horses on hand to carry the luggage and equipment.

You are also likely to spot a variety of different wildlife, including bobcats, pumas and condors.

Salkantay Trek

An alternative trek is Salkantay. The traditional way to do this particular hike is to camp out in tents, but this is down to the participant. There is the option to stay in lodges instead, which offers a much more comfortable stay!

On the Salkantay trek, you’ll pass through local communities and have chance to take in all the gorgeous Andean scenery. There are snow-capped mountains and also lowland jungle areas.

This trek is not quite as popular with tourists as some of the others, so this route tends to be much quieter. You will feel more connected with nature and less distracted by crowds.

Lares Trek

For a unique trekking experience, the Lares is the perfect choice. You will begin in the Sacred Valley and ascend down a narrow valley, where you will have the opportunity to see thatched stone houses surrounded by herds of llamas and alpacas.

The trek is moderate and can be compared with the Inca Trail in the fact that there are two high passes to conquer.

It’s a good idea to spend a couple of days acclimatising in Cusco before taking on this incredible hike.

Llamas and pack mules can be provided upon request to assist with carrying personal items.
