Hotel Review - Fusion Maia Vietnam

Yvonne visited Vietnam in July 2012

We stayed at the Fusion Maia in Danang at the beginning of July 2012, the first thing to mention is that the Vietnam Airlines flight out of Gatwick was OK, seats were comfortable enough and the food was pretty decent, they also have a great luggage allowance of 30kgs and 7kgs hand luggage (quite strict on the hand luggage)..

The Fusion Maia is an all Pool Villa resort about 10 minutes from Danang town where there are a few ‘local’ restaurants, the area is being developed at the moment but we couldn’t tell once inside the resort. They offer shuttle services to Hoi An but the times mean you are there for about 4 hours which is sometimes to long just for an evening meal, there are taxis available and they are approx. $25USD each way (as you can use the Fusion lounge at Hoi An to wait for the shuttle you may meet others who are willing to share a taxi back earlier to cut down the cost)..

There are 2 dining options, Five and Fresh and both offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. A snack and beer came to £10 – 15 each and a 2 course A La Carte meal with a couple of beers came to between £20-30 each and the food was of a very good standard, wine started at around £20 a bottle so not too bad.

There are 2 spa treatments guaranteed daily and more available if they have space, we only had a couple of treatments but they were really good..

The Pool Villas are really nice and spacious and the gardens are totally private but do tend to get quite hot as there is no breeze getting in, the pool was a good size and was the temperature of a warm bath, if your own garden/pool gets too warm the main pool area is lovely as its right on the beach front so gets some lovely sea breezes..

The weather was a bit stormy for the first couple of days but it only rained for short sharp bursts and then it was ‘hot ‘getting up to 40 degrees most days, this is quite normal in the Central region of Vietnam (Nha Trang, Hoi An, Danang & Hue) where the weather is good from May through to early/mid-September then it gets cool and very wet from November through to March.

The other thing that we noticed was that the humidity was quite low…

We chatted to the GM about the new Fusion Alya due to open in Hoi An in November and this will be based around ‘Eating’ as all meals are included with cooking classes and local market shopping trips with the chefs to get the produce to use in the cooking classes, it will be offered on Full Board but not All Inclusive as drinks are not included..

I personally think a week at both resorts would make a brilliant holiday..
