Blue Waters Inn - average rating 6.5 out of 10.
Long before Mustique became a popular retreat for celebrities and aristocracy, the Blue Haven Hotel attracted film stars like Rita Hayworth and Robert Mitchum. Both the Queen and Princess Margaret have visited the hotel and several movies, including Swiss Family Robinson, have been filmed there.
Those halcyon days passed and the original Blue Haven - built, during the 1940s at the site of an old fortification outside the Tobago’s capital Scarborough – closed its doors. For 25 years it stood shuttered and decaying, until Austrian entrepreneur Karl Pilstl and his Trinidadian wife Marilyn noticed the tumbledown building, saw the possibilities in the old shuttered hotel. Eventually, a fully restored, renovated and expanded Blue Haven Hotel opened its doors in December 2000.
Located in Barcolet, a quiet up-market residential area less than a mile from the centre of Scarborough, the coral pink and white Blue Haven is perched on a 15-acre peninsula extending into the Atlantic Ocean, offering wonderful views of Tobago’s southern coastline right across Rockly Bay.
The buildings are extremely eco-friendly and a “flying” roof protects the rooms from the sun’s heat. . With only 55 rooms - including eight suites - it remains Tobago’s finest luxury boutique hotel, whose essence is quiet solitude – your own private oasis of calm.
For that combination of wonderful beaches, array of sporting facilities, exciting food and a serious Spa in a relaxed environment - the essence of holidaying in the Caribbean – then the Coco Reef Resort is designed for you.
Located between two of Tobago’s most impressive beaches: Store Bay and the world famous Pigeon Point, the hotel overlooks its own white sand Coconut Beach. Coco Reef’s decor and furnishings for its 135 rooms – 114 with ocean views - have been chosen specifically to reflect local culture and art, ranging from Saltillo tiles and the finest hand crafted wicker furniture, to the custom-designed draperies and the bedspreads and exquisite wall stencils.
Imagine 30-foot bamboo palms, fountains, an unrivalled view of the Caribbean – and that’s just the lobby; or be met at the airport and transferred to the resort by the hotel’s classic Rolls Royce. And for honeymooners and other particular romantics, the Sunset Villa nestles among the coconut palms away from other guests.
Of course, Coco Reef also offers everything for the sports minded, from tennis to snorkelling, wind-surfing to kayaking or deep-sea fishing.
It can be your choice of holiday, from romantic privacy to outdoor adventure in a lush tropical environment. Just contact one of our Tobago experts by putting in your details on the right.
