Long before Mustique became a popular retreat for celebrities and aristocracy, the Blue Haven Hotel attracted film stars like Rita Hayworth and Robert Mitchum. Both the Queen and Princess Margaret have visited the hotel and several movies, including Swiss Family Robinson, have been filmed there.

Those halcyon days passed and the original Blue Haven - built, during the 1940s at the site of an old fortification outside the Tobago’s capital Scarborough – closed its doors. For 25 years it stood shuttered and decaying, until Austrian entrepreneur Karl Pilstl and his Trinidadian wife Marilyn noticed the tumbledown building, saw the possibilities in the old shuttered hotel. Eventually, a fully restored, renovated and expanded Blue Haven Hotel opened its doors in December 2000.

Located in Barcolet, a quiet up-market residential area less than a mile from the centre of Scarborough, the coral pink and white Blue Haven is perched on a 15-acre peninsula extending into the Atlantic Ocean, offering wonderful views of Tobago’s southern coastline right across Rockly Bay.
