Far from being a café – this is an exclusive restaurant which is likely to offer you one of the finest dining experiences of your life. If you’ve seen enough of the beach, this may be the restaurant for you, with its sweeping views of the golf course. You may even spot a deer drinking at one of the lakes. Traditional Creole dishes are given a creative twist. $$$$

Carefully crafted, beautifully presented dishes with a southeast Asian flavour. Set up by a couple of veterans of the Mauritian tourism industry with extensive experience in some of the island’s most prestigious hotels. X Chez Manuel St Julien Village; % 418 3599; ( for lunch & dinner Mon–Sat. Cuisine: Creole, Chinese. Inland, just off the A7 between Centre de Flacq & Quartier Militaire. A nice escape from the coast. Offers plenty of choice & has a good reputation among locals. $$
