Mauritius - Internet

Most mid-range, upmarket and luxury hotels offer internet access (sometimes at a fee), either in your room or in the hotel business centre. Many of the hotels now offer wireless internet, available either in your room or in a given area of the hotel. Some offer this as a free service, whereas others charge around Rs250 per hour.

Mauritius Post is progressively installing interactive kiosks in post offices, which include internet access. Post offices in the larger towns and tourist areas, including Flic en Flac, Grand Baie, Grand Gaube, Trou d’Eau Douce and Mahébourg, have these kiosks. You need to purchase a prepaid card from the post office counter or use a credit card. It costs Rs10 for 15 minutes.

Internet cafés are not widespread through the island and are usually limited to the main towns and tourist areas. Tariffs for email vary but you can expect to pay around Rs35 for 15 minutes or Rs200 for one hour. For those with a laptop, some internet cafés, restaurants and bars offer Wi-Fi.
