MONEY AND BANKING Branches of the major banks, including HSBC (Pl d’Armes; % 203 8333) and State Bank of Mauritius (1 Queen Elizabeth Av; % 202 1111). Mauritius Commercial Bank (9–15 Sir William Newton St; % 202 5000) and Barclays (Sir William Newton St; % 207 1800) can be found a short distance from the harbour.

COMMUNICATIONS The General Post Office (% 208 2851; ( 08.15–11.15 & 12.00–16.00 Mon–Fri, 08.00–11.45 Sat) and the Postal Museum are near the harbour at the end of Sir William Newton Street.
