Cyclone season, January to March, is best avoided. Even if a cyclone does not strike, rains are plentiful at this time. If hiking is on your itinerary, you may prefer to visit in winter (April to October) as trails can become impassable after the heavy rains of summer. Accommodation for hikers becomes very booked up during the winter, so try to book well in advance.

The other factor to consider is the French school holidays. Flights and hotels tend to be very full at any time which coincides with school holidays in mainland France (la Métropole): Christmas, Easter and from July to September.
