The Roman Catholic faith is very strong and is the religion of the majority. Other active religions are Anglicanism, Adventist, Islam and Hinduism.

Creoles and Chinese form the Roman Catholic community, although some Chinese are members of the Anglican Church. There are no Buddhists. The Muslim community is small, mostly traders, but supports a mosque in Port Mathurin. There are a few Rastafarians in the interior village communities.

Witchcraft is also practised in the traditional Afro-Creole manner of believing in the efficacy of certain potions, charms, herbs, fortune telling and the warding off of evil.
