Post The main post office is at the eastern end of Rue de la Solidarité, Port Mathurin (% 831 2098; ( 08.15–16.00 Mon–Fri, 08.15–11.45 Sat). There are small post offices in Grande Montagne, La Ferme, Rivière Coco and Mont Lubin.

Telephone To call Rodrigues from overseas, after dialling the international access code dial 230 followed by the seven-digit number beginning with 831. From Mauritius, dial 095 followed by the seven digits.

There are a few coin-operated payphones in Rodrigues – at the airport, in Port Mathurin and also some villages, like La Ferme, Quatre Vents, Mont Lubin and Port Sud-est. Cardphones are now fairly widespread throughout the island.

Phone calls can be made and faxes sent at Mauritius Telecom in Rue Johnston, Port Mathurin (% 831 1816; ( 09.00–16.00 Mon–Sat, 09.00–12.00 Sun). You can also buy phonecards (télécartes) here. Many hotels and guesthouses now have fax machines.

Mobile-phone coverage is pretty good in Rodrigues, even beyond Port Mathurin.

Internet access/email There is a shortage of internet cafés and many of those that have opened in recent years have had a very short lifespan. The only internet café in Port Mathurin is currently Rodnet Cybercafé (Patricio Bldg, Pl François Leguat; % 831 0747; ( 08.30–16.30 Mon–Fri, 08.30–13.00 Sat). Internet access costs around Rs3 per minute or Rs300 for five hours. Scanning, faxing, CD/DVD burning and photocopying are also available.

Internet access and Wi-Fi are available at the library in Port Mathurin, in the Alfred North-Coombs Building on the corner of Hajee Bhai Fatehmamode and François Leguat streets (( 09.00–16.30 Mon–Fri, 09.00–14.00 Sat).

Internet access is also available at the post office in Port Mathurin and Mauritius Telecom.

Wireless internet is available at many of the guesthouses and hotels, if you have a laptop with you. It is also available in the grounds of the Rodrigues tourist office in Port Mathurin.
