Although there are much-discussed plans to further develop tourism in Rodrigues, the industry is in its infancy. There are just a few small hotels and numerous guesthouses on the island and no tourism training school, so if you are hoping to find accommodation and service of mainland Mauritian standards, you will be disappointed.

However, visitors who are looking to experience a unique and simple island way of life will be delighted. Perhaps the best way to achieve this is to stay with a family or rent a house from a local, or at least eat a home-cooked meal at one of the many table d’hôte restaurants. Plenty of Rodriguans now offer this type of accommodation and dining, and a full list can be obtained from the tourist office. Lack of crime and limited accommodation mean that opportunities for camping holidays are still many. Some of the best spots are around the beaches of the east coast.

Please note that as water is so scarce in Rodrigues, all of the hotels ask you to limit the amount that you use.
