From Pointe aux Piments the coast road runs parallel to the main road, through the extended hamlet of Trou aux Biches (Hole of the Does), so named because there is supposed to have been a small watering hole here frequented by female deer. In contrast, Trou aux Cerfs (Hole of the Stags) at Curepipe was said to be used by the males of the species.

Despite falling victim to extensive tourism development, Trou aux Biches retains much of its Mauritian charm. A far quieter alternative to Grand Baie, it features a good beach, excellent snorkelling and a range of accommodation and restaurants. The northern end of Trou aux Biches seems to almost blend into Mont Choisy, which has one of the best beaches in the area. The beach curves around a large bay lined with casuarina trees, stretching to Pointe aux Canonniers. On the weekends the beach is crowded with Mauritians; buses bring them down from the large population areas around Port Louis and in the central plateau. Families set themselves up under the casuarinas trees, makeshift shops selling inflatable creatures and other beach paraphernalia spring up and by the afternoon there is usually singing and dancing.

Inland from Trou aux Biches is Triolet, which boasts the largest Hindu temple in Mauritius. It is an amalgamation of seven temples added to the original Maheswarnath Temple, built in 1857. As soon as you arrive, an elderly gentleman will probably appear out of nowhere to give you a guided tour. A donation to the temple is usually all that is required in exchange. He may seem eccentric but he appears to know his stuff.
