Flic en Flac has lots of touristy shops, selling cheap clothing and souvenirs. There are two shopping malls: the Flic en Flac Mall at the northern end of town and the new Pasadena Village opposite the police station near Flic en Flac Beach. The abundance of tourists in the area means that shopkeepers tend to try it on when it comes to price. A few words of Creole usually do the trick (see Appendix 1, Language, pages 347–8).

Beyond Flic en Flac Mall, on the way out of town on the right, there are two model ship shops. Pirate Ship Models (% 453 9028; ( 09.30–17.30 Mon–Sat) has lots of choice. The smaller Superbe Ship Shop is almost next door.

Ruisseau Creole (% 483 8000; e contact[at]ruisseaucreole.com; ruisseaucreole.com; shops ( 09.30–18.30 Mon–Sat) is a large shopping centre at Rivière Noire, which targets the tourist market and well-heeled Mauritians. It opened in June 2005 and has around 50 shops selling jewellery, clothing, handicrafts and art, as well as restaurants and bars. There is also a bank with ATM and free parking. A free shuttle is available from most hotels on the west coast.

Another large shopping complex, La Cascavelle, was recently built on the road into Flic en Flac. As well as boutiques, it contains a supermarket and food court.
