Dear Ruth

First of all a big congrats on the birth of your little girl. I do hope you are loving motherhood. It is a wonderful time but can be a little overwhelming too. Enjoy the good bits and endure the hard times. I hope that at least you are getting some sleep by now!

Thank you for the lovely little gift that was waiting when we got back....very thoughtful of you. I have had fun trying all my little samples!

We had a lovely holiday. The hotel was beautiful. It was beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. The rooms were gorgeous and also spotless. The swimming pool was the main attraction and it was truly awesome. Just huge and very child friendly. I personally loved the salt water pool that was refilled every 3 or 4 days. Like swimming in the sea but without all the hassle...no sand, no creatures, no snorklers!

The staff were all fab.. Lovely friendly people who were really sweet with our kids and for whom nothing was too much trouble. We couldn't fault the enthusiasm of the service while we were there.

The kids club was a nice distraction for the kids and about the only thing that got them out of the pool. Most of the activities were crafty in door activities which suited us just fine. It was really hot and we were relieved that the kids were able to do something fun indoors in a bit of air conditioning. The ladies who ran the club were warm and welcoming and the kids felt right at home.

The food was delicious and there was a fairly wide selection on offer. Lunches were not quite as generous and varied as breakfast and supper. But there were a great many local and international guests and a lot of tastes and preferences to cater for! We loved trying all the different dishes but drew the line at beans and chili for breakfast! The kids managed to find something they fancied at each meal time but it was agreed that pancakes every morning were the family fix!

Activities outside the resort were plentiful but not always appropriate for a young family. As a result we did not do many excursions etc. Phil and Morgan, my eldest, went on the canyon Safari and had a ball. They also did loads of snorkelling and loved it! We enjoyed the Bedouin tent experience and my youngest got to ride on a camel called "Hi-Lux". A real treat.

Other than that we had fun attempting to belly dance, the kids got henna tattoos, we did aerobics in the pool and managed to get through a small pile of novels while lazing poolside!

All in all a lovely holiday that was spoilt by only one thing....we all had Egyptian tummy on and off for the whole two weeks. We did not drink the water or handle the money without washing hands, so the only thing we can think that might have caused it was the food or the preparation thereof. We know that this is a problem experienced in all parts of Egypt but it would make us think twice about going back. I know this is something that cannot really be addressed by yourselves but I do think that families with young children should be advised that this is an issue.

Anyway Ruth.....there you have it! The whole Egyptian experience a la Morton Family! I have left out the details of our numerous trips to the toilet.....too much information is not a good thing!
