Temperature & What to Pack

Australia’s vast landscape results in various climates in different destinations. The southern regions, containing the large cities of Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide have cool but pleasant temperatures which match perfectly with city life, whereas in the northern city of Darwin, temperatures are very tropical with year-round warmth.

Should visiting the southern cities be high on your bucket-list, you can expect highs of 24C with 9 hours of sunlight, dropping to temperatures as low as 14C of an evening. Sydney has a high likelihood of rain with 116mm predicted over 15 days of rainfall, whereas Adelaide has a lower average of 20mm over 10 days. If you are visiting this region during November, we would recommend packing summer clothes with some light layers and perhaps a thin waterproof.

In the heat of Australia’s Red Centre, in Alice Springs and at the world-famous Ayers Rock formation (Uluru), temperatures reflect the harsh desert terrain with highs of 33C over 12 hours of sunshine and cooling to a pleasant 18C of an evening. The expected rainfall average is 30mm over 8 days within this region, which is slightly lower than the southern areas.

In Australia’s north, the tropical climate brings high temperatures of 32C with a not-so-low temperature of 26C at night. If you are visiting northern destinations such as Darwin and Katherine in November, you can expect 9 hours of sunshine with 13 days of rainfall measuring 140mm on average.

Should the western city of Perth take your interest, temperatures are pleasant with highs of 25C over 11 hours of sunshine, dropping to 14C at night. Rainfall is less likely in this region with just 7 days of rainfall and a reading of 20mm.
