The Chiloe Islands south of the Lake District in Chile are wonderfully interesting. The islands are formed from a mountain range that sank below the waves during the last Ice Age adding to their fascinating history.

Being the largest island in Chile, it is a highly appreciated location visited by many that are keen to absorb the culture and character of the island. Much of the old-age touch has been preserved allowing you to discover palafitos, colourful timber house on wooden stilts, which were once the home to many of the southern fishermen.

The island still has around 150 eighteenth century wooden churches scattered around adding to the old charm of these remarkable islands.

Famous for its seafood, this is the main sustenance all over the island, with the freshest seafood available, it will probably be the best you will ever taste. The residents of this island also continue with some old culinary traditions, preparing and cooking dishes underground resulting in a succulent Curanto dish that we certainly recommend you try.

Taking only a half an hour ferry ride from Puerto Montt, the Chiloe islands are destined to be discovered with their mass of unique architecture and divine cuisine.
