Zambia Safaris

Zambia is a fantastic safari destination because of its 19 National Parks.

Three of these, the Lower Zambezi, South Luangwa and Kafue National Park are recognised as probably the most important National Parks in Africa. The standard of guiding here is second to none in Africa and Zambia offers some of Africa's "voted best" safari lodges.

To get the best safari to Zambia we sugest you fill in an enquiry form on the right hand side of this page. Our expert Zambia safari advisers will be able to tell you which are the best lodges at the best times of year. They will also be able to advise on who the best guides are.

About Zambia Safaris

Zambia is a peaceful, friendly in sub-tropical Africa and steeped in culture with 73 different native tribes, each with their own languages and traditions.

Unquestionably, Zambia is Africa's best walking safari destination. Remoter areas are only accessible in the dry season (May to October) and nocturnal species are a particular attraction. This landlocked country offers a rich and varied habitat, with unspoilt forests and vast grass plains, drained by three of Africa's largest rivers: the Zambezi, the Kafue, and the Luangwa. Each river provides the ideal ingredients that contribute to Zambia being one of the most abundant wildlife refuges in Africa.

Each river is different in character and each provides unique environments for wildlife. Natives named the rivers by their colour - the Zambezi is known as the “blue river”, the Kafue is known “green river” and the Luangwa as the “brown river”. Zambia also encompasses several large lakes, including Lake Tanganyika, Mweru, Itezhi-tezhi and Lake Kariba. The Victoria Falls in Livingstone is, of course, one of the world’s great natural phenomena.

Safari highlights

  • South Luangwa - home of the modern-day walking safari and one of the best places to see leopard. It offers some of the finest bushcamps and lodges in Africa
  • North Luangwa – a remote walking safari wilderness and practically off-limits for 40 years, it favours the intrepid and those with a more time to explore. The area is considered "serious safari turf" by experienced travellers and still has restricted access.
  • Kafue National Park in the central-western region of Zambia, like the Luangwa, is recovering steadily from the ravages of poaching. It is deemed the best reserve in Africa for antelope and popular among “old hands” and "birding" enthusiasts.
  • Lower Zambezi is: a relatively unexplored wilderness and Africa's real canoe safari spot with true wilderness lodges.
  • Victoria Falls - a World Heritage Site, is the largest curtain of falling water on earth and Africa's "adrenaline capital" – it offers best views and experiences from Zambia’s shores than from those of its troubled neighbour Zimbabwe.
