Bwindi Holidays

Bwindi is the location for world heritage site, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Located in south western Uganda, and situated along the Democratic Republic of Congo border next to Virunga National Park.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is renowned for its mountain gorillas and the incredible privilege of being able to track them. Over half (some 300) of the world's population of mountain gorillas live within Bwindi's forests. Can you even begin to imagine coming face to face with these gentle giants.

The mountain gorilla is extremely endangered and the area is heavily protected. These fantastic and fascinating creatures lure people from all corners of the globe. They are arguably one of our closest relatives, and only found in two locations in the world. It's amazing to think that less than 700 of these unbelievable creatures are left in the world today.

Looking into a gorilla's eyes are is compelling, soft and brown, full of curious gentleness, inquisitive yet also accepting. Look into the expressive brown eyes of these gentle giants is the highlight of any Ugandan holiday but do not let it distract from Bwindi's broader biodiversity. The park is home to at least 120 other mammal species including the black and white colobus, red-tailed and blue monkey, so plenty to keep you occupied.

The accommodation in Bwindi offers spectacular and uninterrupted views of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. You might even catch a glimpse of the famous gorillas from the hotel.

Gorilla Trekking

• The main reason for a safari in Bwindi is to track and spend time with the Mountain Gorillas. The gorillas you track will belong one of the 'habituated' family groups. Only six permits per gorilla group are issued per day and you may spend anywhere between half and eight hours in search of these animals.

• Once the gorillas are located, you will be allowed a maximum of one hour with them observing their behaviour and interaction with each other.
