“DR is a poo country where tipping has become a way of life. Travellers should ensure they take lots of small denomination notes and expect to tip for everything. There is a high crime rate and unsupervised travel outside of the resort is not recommended”

“We were transfered from.the Hilton la Romana after it shut due to Hurricane Fiona to The Grand Palladium, this hotel change was not up to a like for like standard rooms were terrible, old , dirty and flea infested.. we had to pay over £1500 for our room to be upgrade to a like for like room .”

“Quite surprised at the level of economic industrialisation and commercial development taking place in the country , there are in my mind, two obvious classes of population; those who have and those who have not! Many locals cannot afford cars are poorly dressed and rely on lifts at the side of the road otherwise they walk great distances to get to work! Most surprising is the way the construction industry seem to employ their workers , on an adhoc basis ,gathering employees at the side of the road or in and around petrol stations or waste ground. I would imagine this method does not give workers rights or long term contractsand probably is below any min wage we recognise in this country ( if in fact contracts were given at all) ! We saw many “workers trucks” on one our day trips out of the resort... early in the morning these were open backed tipper type trucks crammed to the brim with workers hanging on for dear life! I’d hate to think what would happen if there was an accident! While the roads etc are fairly modern and there are obvious signs of agricultural and building aiding the economy! I think in the area we visited Punta Can relies heavily on employment from tourism ., I saw many fields of sugar cane, beef cattle! And lots of land for sale!”
