Koh Phangan is an island paradise situated in the Gulf of Thailand, towards the southern region. Over 70% of the area is covered by mountains and tropical forests, and on the lowlands are beautiful beaches and coconut fields. Koh Phangan has two sister islands; Koh Samui and Koh Tao.

Koh Phangan has a population of 12,000. The official language on the island is standard; however English is understood in most business circles and tourist areas. The most important product which originates from the island are coconuts. On average every month they produce one million, which are exported to Bangkok. Fishing, coconut production and tourism are an important source of income.

Head Rin is the most famous beach in Koh Phangan where the famous full moon party takes place. This event celebrates the full moon night; the party attracts ten to thirty thousand people from all over the world. There are also lovely sites around the island which are perfect for diving and snorkelling.

There are only two seasons a year; hot season which is from January- April and rainy season from May- January. The temperature varies from 20- 36 degrees Celsius. It's the relaxing beach life; the coral reef with photogenic fishes attracts a lot of visitors. The island is renowned for its relaxed atmosphere.

Koh Phangan featured in the novel "The Beach" written by Alex Garland in 1997 as well as in the movie which was based on the book.
