Holidays to Koh Samui

Holidays to Koh Samui

Koh Samui, Thailand's third largest island - roughly circular in shape and about 15 km across - is one of the great places of the world in which to relax, take time out from a busy schedule and do whatever you most like to do – except perhaps skiing!  It lies in the Gulf of Thailand surrounded by about 60 other islands, most of which make up the Ang Thong National Marine Park.

We can give you some great advice on getting the most from a holiday to Koh Samui, just fill in our contact form and a Thailand Koh Samui expert will contact you to give you the best prices and advice.

Activity is focused on the many amazing beaches - the central part of the island is an (almost) uninhabitable mountain jungle, rising to a peak (Khao Pom) of 635 m, and a road links the various towns and villages around the island’s circumference.

The old capital, Nathon on the southwest coast is the major port for fishing and inter-island transportation and commercial hub of the Samui locals. It has a charming easy-going pace and is small enough to walk almost everywhere. There are old Chinese shop houses along the middle street, for example, that hark back to an exotic history.

Each of Koh Samui's main beaches are nominally considered towns, witness to the number of hotels, restaurants and bars that have sprung up in recent years. Indeed, these funky rural beach communities with white sand and clear, warm seas, lie at the heart of the island’s reputation and appeal to travellers of all kinds since the 1960s. While Ko Samui is hardly "away from it all" anymore, it remains a “cool” place to be even as a bustling international island resort: truly the best of both worlds.

Koh Samui is changing as we speak, with plans for a harbour to house super-yachts to the south of the island, for example. Of course, you always meet people who say “you should have been here ten years ago” for the “authentic” experience, but Koh Samui has what we hope is an enduring charm that can weather the worst excesses of commercial expansion.
