Room 7.0 / 10 Not very good weatherm even though we have been this time before. Shangri La Villingili: Flight to Gan took a little longer than stated but a smooth ride and an individual certificate given to everyone just before touchdown to say that you had officially crossed the Equator - nice touch. The island itself was quite big with only a beach one side - the other being rocky and unreachable unless you had a villa that side. Very strong currents, more like surfing waves than snorkelling. Accommodation was nice (Beach Villa with Pool No.205 - apparently one of the best position-wise) but we thought the split room idea was inconvenient at times as you had to close the sliding doors each time otherwise the AC went off - also for security. Therefore, if you were using the lounge area and wanted the loo, you had to go across to the bedroom, unlock the sliding door etc. Worst still when pouring with rain. Could really have done with a simple connecting passageway. On the good side, my husband could go into the separate lounge early in the morning to watch the news on the second TV, leaving me to have another five minutes of peace and quiet!! Food good at Dr Ali but the other restaurant was average, albeit this was the main one and the breakfast was good. The fish restaurant didn't open every night - maybe due to the level of occupancy? If you were staying for more than a week, you would be lacking for variety. Staff very friendly. Met up with the restaurant manager who was at Soneva Gili when we went there a couple of years ago. He is now manager of Dr Ali and made us most welcome. Not one of the prettiest islands we have been to.
